Satnav Driving Test

Practise

Independent Driving Test

The test examiner will require the student to follow directions from a pre-configured Sat-Nav on their own. The Sat-nav will include the route that the learner is required to track. The model or make of Satnav device used whilst the examination is going on will not really matter as the driving test-route will be identical. In the situation where the learner driver tries a different road, the examiner will let them know and give instructions. However, we highly recommend the Tomtom Start 52 mainly because it is the device examiners tend to utilise while examining driving tests.

We aim to provide customers with a great deal of support and help with our products. You will speedily become skilled at the various routes provided. That said, we of course recommend having a person who is a skilled instructor.

When you veer off the independent driving route, it will not have any impact on your test results except if you make some other driving fault, break a traffic regulation or commit a traffic offence. In the case where you make an incorrect route choice, the examiner will help you to return to the correct route. In case of obscure or poor traffic signs, the examiner will direct the learner until such time as they arrive at the following visible traffic sign. The learner does not need to have a good understanding of the town. You can’t use your own Sat-nav for independent driving, as it gives the learner very detailed instructions. The independent driving section will test if you are able to effect safe independent choices.
