Key Areas Around Hexham

Here are a few areas around the Hexham Test Centre that are worth practising a little more, as they regularly feature during the test routes. Get confident driving these roads and roundabouts, as they’ll likely feature:

Quatre Bras Junction

A busy multi-arm traffic-light junction used frequently across the majority of routes. Examiners will assess your lane choice, positioning, and early signalling here.

A69 Slip Roads & Rotary Way

Fast-moving dual carriageway slip roads leading to several consecutive roundabouts. These will test your ability to merge, plan ahead, and maintain appropriate speeds.

Alemouth Road & Station Road

A common loop past the station where you'll need to navigate tight turns, be mindful of pedestrian activity, and negotiate multiple roundabouts.

Priestpopple, Battle Hill & Beaumont Street

Central Hexham’s busiest roads... so expect increased traffic, parked cars, and junctions requiring good anticipation.

Causey Hill & St Paul’s / St Cuthbert’s Area

Residential roads with gradients and tighter bends. Manoeuvres are often requested here as they present quieter environments.

Sat nav Driving Test

The test examiner will ask the student to take directions from a pre-setup SatNav on their own. The Sat-Nav will include the route that the student is required to follow. The make or model of SatNav used whilst the examination is going on will not make a difference as the test-route will be identical. In the situation where the learner driver tries the wrong road, the examiner will advise accordingly. That said, we highly recommend the Tomtom Start 52 mainly as it is what examiners use whilst examining driving tests.

Practise

We aim to provide customers with a great deal of help and support with Route-Led's products. You’ll quickly get good at the different routes we provided. However, we definitely recommend using a person who is a professional instructor.

Independent Driving Test

During the independent driving test, the examiner will provide the student all the necessary directions. In case the student gets confused during the journey, they will be required to confirm the instructions from the test examiner. Learners cannot utilise their own Sat-nav devices for independent driving because they give detailed voice instructions. Independent driving will check the ability of the examinee to undertake independent decisions.
