Key Areas Around the Hereford DTC

The 5 areas below have been selected as they each feature heavily across the 16 route variations. There’s a high probability that you will drive them on your test, so spend a little extra time getting to know them well:

Grandstand Road & Faraday Road

These appear on every route variation. You can expect light industrial traffic, parked vehicles and several turns close together as you leave or return to the test centre. Make a good first/last impression here!

Roman Road (A4103)

A major ring road with several roundabouts which examiners often use to test lane discipline, judgement when entering roundabouts, and maintaining appropriate speeds.

Edgar Street & Newmarket/Blueschool Street

Be ready for lane guidance, pedestrian crossings and frequent stops on these busy city-centre roads with several traffic light sets.

Kings Acre Road & Three Elms Road

Common mid-route sections with a mix of residential and faster stretches. You’ll likely encounter roundabouts, hidden driveways and varying speed limits as you navigate them.

Yazor Road & Redbarn Drive

Regularly used at the end of many routes. These residential roads are the perfect place to demonstrate your smooth, controlled driving and proper lane positioning before returning.

Sat-Nav Driving Test

Practice

Independent Driving Test

The examiner will require the learner driver to take instructions from a pre-configured SatNav on their own. The Sat nav will show the route that the student will be required to follow. The model or make of SatNav utilised during the examination will not really make a difference as the driving test-route will be identical. In the situation where the learner driver accidentally tries the wrong route, the examiner will let them know and give instructions. However, we very much recommend the Tom tom Start 52 mainly because it’s what examiners tend to use whilst examining driving tests.

We aim to provide purchasers with a lot of support and help with our products. You’ll quickly get good at the various routes we provided. That said, we of course recommend having a person who is a skilled teacher.

The Independent driving test does not test your skill in following instructions. In addition, an independent driving test doesn’t check your ability to remember instructions. If you need to query the examiner for the directions, they will confirm them for you. Going off route won’t change your examination score in any way. Do not fret about obscured road signs as the examiner will help you should you require it. Please understand that you cannot bring your personal Satnav with you for the examination. This is because your own Satnav will be setup to provide step-by-step directions.
