Key Practice Areas
As you drive the various test route options throughout Hamilton, you’ll notice there are numerous areas that recur. Take some additional time to practise the following roads and roundabouts as they will likely feature in the test:
Tuphall Road & Surrounding Loops
Every route begins and ends here. It’s a mix of mini-roundabouts and short junctions, so early mirror checks and smooth positioning will help set the tone for your test.
Hamilton Road / Motherwell Road Corridor
This main route between Hamilton and Motherwell features multiple large roundabouts which examiners commonly use to assess lane discipline and awareness.
Airbles Road Roundabouts
Several closely-spaced roundabouts testing your ability to respond quickly and stay focused.
Town Centre Network (Brandon St, West Hamilton St, Muir St)
You’ll likely drive through this series of linked roundabouts and junctions. Demonstrate patience, scan for pedestrians, and signal clearly here.
Leven St, George St, Ladywell Rd
These residential areas include narrower roads, parked cars and frequent turns. They are common places for carrying out manoeuvres and observation tests.

Learn Hamilton Driving Test Routes
The examiner will require the learner driver to follow directions from a configured Sat-Nav independently. The Sat-Nav will show the route that the student needs to track. The model or make of satnav utilised whilst the examination is in progress won’t really make a difference mainly because the test route will be identical. In the situation where the student accidentally takes a different road, the examiner will let them know and give instructions. That said, we very much suggest the Tom Tom Start 52 mainly as it’s the device examiners tend to use whilst conducting driving tests.

Being a service-oriented company, we supply Route-led's customers with extra support and help for our driving test routes. Using Route-LED's test-routes enables the customers to experience the roads, junctions and corners they will be driving on during their driving examinations. To help the student in practising how to drive carefully and also to perform well during the driving examination, we definitely recommend using a good driving teacher. How it works

The Independent driving test doesn’t test your ability to follow instructions. In addition, an independent driving test does not test your ability to remember instructions. If you ask the examiner for updated instructions, they will give them to you. Going off route won’t affect your examination results in any way. Don’t fret about unclear road signs as the examiner will help you if you require it. You should understand that you cannot bring your own Satnav device with you for the test. This is due to the fact that your personal SatNav will be configured to provide detailed instructions.
Hamilton Test Centre Info
Hamilton test centre can be found at 30 Selkirk Street, Hamilton South Lanarkshire ML3 6RQ. There should be ramp access for disabled users but we suggest calling to make sure. There are also usually disabled, female and male toilets available at the test centre but it's probably best to use these at your house in advance! It’s sometimes feasible to park at the test centre. If not, it should be fine to park close by and get there by foot. Be prepared for one-way streets, roundabouts, difficult junctions and busy roads. Using test-routes while learning to drive is always very useful, allowing you to learn on routes that you will actually be going on during your examination.
