Key Areas to Focus On

Haddington’s test routes cover a variety of quiet residential pockets and faster rural stretches. It’s worth getting familiar with the roads and roundabouts that appear repeatedly across them:

A199 Corridor

You’ll join the A199 several times, often via roundabouts. It’s a good road to show-off your smooth acceleration, safe overtakes (when appropriate), and confident positioning.

Hospital Road & Aberlady Road

These local roads link several housing estates and typically carry steady traffic. You can expect to negotiate parked vehicles, oncoming traffic, and controlled meeting situations.

Clerkington Road & West Road

This area includes several roundabouts and changes of speed limit, making it a great place to demonstrate your planning and speed adjustment.

Dunbar Road Roundabout

This busy roundabout appears in most route variations, and often takes you off in different directions. Be sure to demonstrate proper roundabout technique here.

Florabank, Herdmanflatt & Surrounding Estates

These residential loops are common areas for manoeuvres. They’re ideal for showcasing your clutch control, steering finesse, and good all-round observations.

Practice Haddington Driving Test Routes

In your driving examination, the examiner will choose a particular route on the sat-Nav. You will be expected to follow the route chosen by the examiner in addition to the directions from the Sat-Nav device. The make and model of the device won’t matter, this is because Route-LED's test-routes work with many different devices. You can’t utilise your personal SatNav device in the Haddington driving examination. For more information, you can find 2021 changes to the driving test here.

Route-LED provides customers with a high degree of help and support to use Route-LED's test routes. You will get used to all the different sections of the roads to be travelled during the test. We would recommend using a skilled driving instructor as well. For extra information on what you can do to practise for your driving test visit Driving Test Practice

The Independent driving test doesn’t test your skill in following directions. Moreover, an independent driving test doesn’t test your skill in remembering directions. If you query the examiner for the directions, they will confirm them for you. Veering off route will not affect your test results at all. Do not fret about obscured traffic signs as the examiner will help you if you need it. You should understand that you cannot bring your personal Sat nav with you for the examination. This is because your personal Satnav will be configured to provide step by step instructions.
