Key Shieldhall Areas
With so many route variations around the Shieldhall area of Glasgow, it’s only natural some areas will appear more than others. Spend some extra practise time on the following roads and roundabouts:
Renfrew Road & Govan Road Corridor
Almost every route begins and ends here, so make a strong impression to start and end your test. You can expect several roundabouts, lane changes, and busy traffic from the hospital and industrial estates.
Clyde Tunnel (A739)
A signature feature of the Shieldhall test area. Joining, maintaining your lane discipline, and exiting safely from the tunnel are all key skills examiners will be looking for.
Langlands Road & Meiklewood Road Roundabouts
These clusters of roundabouts appear across multiple routes. Practise clear observation and confident positioning throughout.
Paisley Road West
A long road with shops, parked cars, bus lanes, and signal-controlled junctions. It’s a great place to demonstrate your speed control and awareness.
Penilee, Mosspark & Shieldhall Residential Loops
These quieter housing areas feature tight turns, give-way signs, and are likely candidates for manoeuvres.
“Best driving test app out there! Helped me become more confident ready for my test.”

Practice Glasgow (Shieldhall) Test Routes

Sat Nav Driving Test
The examiner will ask the student to take instructions from a pre-setup Sat nav independently. The Satnav will show the route that the student will be required to follow. The model or make of Satnav used while the examination is going on won’t matter as the driving test route will be the same. In the situation where the learner driver tries a different road, the examiner will advise accordingly. However, we very much suggest the Tom tom Start 52 mainly because it’s the device examiners tend to use whilst examining driving tests.
Practice
Route-Led provides clients with a high degree of help and support to utilise our driving test-routes. You’ll get accustomed to all the different sections of the roads to be travelled during the test. We would suggest using a knowledgeable driving instructor as well. For extra free information on what you can do to practise for your driving test please go to Driving Test Practice
Independent Driving Test
In the course of the independent driving test, the examiner will provide the student all the necessary instructions. In case the student becomes lost during the journey, they will need to confirm the instructions from the examiner. Students can’t utilise their own Sat-nav devices for independent driving because they give detailed voice instructions. Independent driving will check the skill of the examinee to make independent choices.
