Key Test Moments
From roads to roundabouts, there are a number of elements that are repeated across several of the route variations. Take a little extra time to practise the following areas as they have a high chance of showing:
Brooms Road:
Every route begins and ends here, so it’s your chance to make a calm, confident first impression. Watch the roundabout closely as traffic can appear quickly from several directions.Annan Road & A75:
These roads take you into faster-speed areas where planning ahead really matters. Remember: mirror–signal–move early, and stay relaxed when joining dual carriageways.Georgetown & Tinwald Downs:
These are both quieter housing areas, and perfect for the examiner to test your control and observation. You might get a manoeuvre here, so it's worth getting some practise in.Town Centre (English St, Loreburn St, Shakespeare St):
Expect busier traffic, tight turns, and pedestrian crossings. Don’t rush these sections... steady timing and clutch control make all the difference.Roundabouts (lots of them):
Dumfries loves its roundabouts! From mini ones to multi-lane junctions on the A75, you’ll need to navigate quite a few. Pick the right lane early, and remember to check mirrors before exiting.
Route Tips
Make the most of the huge advantage you already have with the app, and try to incorporate these tips for a more confident and successful test day:
Route Selection
Choose an easier route using the preview to begin with, then move onto more complicated routes as your confidence grows!
Weather Conditions
You may have rain, high winds, or low-light during your test so it makes sense to practise in all weather conditions.
Time of Day
Rush hour traffic at the start and end of the day makes for good (if slightly boring) practise conditions for clutch-control.

SatNav Driving Test
The examiner will ask the learner driver to follow instructions from a pre-setup Satnav independently. The Satnav will show the route that the learner is required to track. The model or make of SatNav utilised during the examination will not matter mainly because the test route will be identical. In case the learner driver accidentally tries the wrong road, the examiner will let them know and give instructions. However, we highly recommend the Tom tom Start 52 mainly because it’s what examiners tend to use whilst examining driving tests.
Practice
Being a client-focused company, we supply Route-LED's customers with extra help and support for Route-LED's test-routes. Using Route-led's test routes allows the customers to practice the corners, roads and junctions they will be driving on during their driving tests. To help the learner in learning how to conduct a vehicle safely and also to perform well during the driving examination, we highly suggest using a good driving instructor. How it works
Independent Driving Test
The Independent driving test does not check your ability to follow directions. Moreover, an independent driving test doesn’t check your ability to remember instructions. If you ask the examiner for the directions, he/she will give them to you. Going off route will not change your test score at all. Don’t fret about obscured road signs as the examiner will help you should you need it. Please note that you cannot bring your own SatNav with you to take the examination. This is due to the fact that your personal Sat-nav will be setup to provide detailed instructions.
