Key Route Moments
With 17 test route variations it’s inevitable that some roads in Colchester are going to feature more than others. Try to practise the following roads a few times to build confidence as they appear often:
Old Heath Road & Whitehall Road:
Both busy local roads right near the test centre . You can expect mini roundabouts and parked cars so keep your speed low and plan early for oncoming traffic.Mersea Road & Berechurch Hall Road:
A popular mix of faster stretches combined with smaller junctions. You'll be moving from suburban to semi-rural conditions so be ready to adapt accordingly.Southway & Magdalen Street:
These central Colchester sections of the test can be a little hectic with multiple lanes and traffic lights. Try to stay calm, plan your lane positions early, and never rush at the lights.Shrub End Road & Layer Road:
Frequent double mini roundabouts and turns will test both your awareness and signalling. Demonstrating smooth clutch control and keen observation makes a strong impression here.Maldon Road & Lexden Road:
More challenging urban roads with varied speed limits and the potential for pedestrian activity. Mirror checks and good anticipation will be key for driver confidence and safety.
“Best driving test app out there! Helped me become more confident ready for my test.”
“Passed first time! Practicing the routes really helped!”

Satnav Driving Test
While conducting the independent driving test, the examiner will request the student to follow directions from the Satnav device. The examiner will bring an already setup Tom tom Start 52 device. All you will have to do is to take instructions from the device. The make or model of the Sat nav device that you’ll use during your practise sessions won’t make a difference one bit. As a leading SatNav company, we supply driving test-routes for iPhone, Tomtom, Garmin and Android devices. You can’t utilise your personal Sat-Nav device during the driving test.
Practise
Route-led provides customers with a large amount of support and help to utilise our driving test routes. You’ll get used to all the different sections of the routes to be navigated during the examination. We recommend using a knowledgeable driving instructor in addition. For more free information on what you can do to pass your driving examination please go to Driving Test Practice
Independent Driving Test
During the independent driving test, the examiner will provide the student all the relevant directions. If the learner becomes confused along the way, they will need to confirm the directions from the examiner. Learners can’t use personal Satnav for independent driving as they give turn by turn instructions. Independent driving will check the skill of the examinee to undertake independent choices.
