Key Test Practise Areas

You’ll see some roads, roundabouts and junctions repeated in the majority of test routes from Burton-on-Trent Test Centre. These are the top 5 we recommend you practise more than most:

  1. Wellington Road:
This main stretch near to the test centre will get busy during rush hours. Keep your lane discipline tight at the upcoming roundabout, and watch for buses pulling out.

  2. Derby Road and Derby Street:
You’ll likely use these on most route options. They mix faster sections with smaller junctions - so remember to adjust your speed accordingly and stay alert.

  3. A38 and Branston Roundabout:
Stay in lane, build up speed smoothly, and check your mirrors.. this is where you’ll show your confidence joining and leaving a dual carriageway.

  4. Horninglow Road and Tutbury Road:
Typical suburban roads lined with parked cars, undulations, and traffic lights. Keep your clutch control steady if in traffic, and look well ahead for gaps before turning.

  5. Town Centre Section (Bridge Street and Wharf Road):
Keep calm, hold your position, and don’t rush your decisions through these narrower roads with pedestrians, tight bends, and mini roundabouts. Precision matters more than speed here.

Passed first time! Practicing the routes really helped!”

Independent Driving Test

While undertaking the independent driving test, the examiner will request the learner driver to take instructions from the sat Nav. The examiner will bring a pre-configured Tom Tom Start 52 device. All you will have to do is to take instructions from the Sat-nav. The make or model of the Sat-Nav device that you’ll use during your learning sessions won’t matter one bit. As a top tier SatNav company, we supply driving test-routes for Garmin, Tomtom, Android and iPhone devices. You cannot utilise your personal satnav in the Burton on Trent driving test.

We like to provide purchasers with a great deal of help and support with Route-LED's routes. You will quickly become skilled at the various routes we provided. That said, we definitely recommend having someone who is a skilled instructor.

If you veer off the independent driving route, it will not have any impact on your examination score except if you break a traffic regulation, do some other driving fault or commit a traffic offence. In the case where you make a wrong turn, the test examiner will assist you return to the correct route. Where you have poor or obscure road signs, the examiner will instruct the learner until they get to the following visible road sign. The learner does not have to have a good knowledge of the town. You can’t use your own Sat nav for independent driving, as it gives the learner very detailed instructions. The independent driving section is designed to test if you are able to effect secure independent choices.
