Key Focus Areas

Keep a look out for the following sections as you drive… they feature in many of the test routes used by examiners from Bridlington Test Centre.

Hilderthorpe Road and Station Road:
These main roads are often busy with shoppers and buses so keep an eye out for people and parked cars. Plan ahead when approaching the roundabouts near town.

Marton Road and Scarborough Road:
You’ll likely visit one or both of these on your test. They link out toward the A165 and have several roundabouts in quick succession.

Sewerby Road and Sewerby Heads:
A quieter but slightly narrower section featuring in several routes where the examiner may ask you to perform manoeuvres. Look well ahead for oncoming traffic and give yourself plenty of space.

Queensgate and Kingsgate:
These main roads include several traffic lights and larger junctions. Stay patient and time your accelerating and braking so you’re never rushing through amber lights.

South Marine Drive and the Seafront Area:
Scenic but tricky - with pedestrians, tight bends, and parked cars. Keeping your speed low and focusing on your positioning will impress the examiner here.

Independent Driving Test

The test examiner will ask the student to take directions from a pre-setup Sat-Nav independently. The SatNav will show the route that the student is required to track. The make or model of Satnav device used while the exam is in progress will not really make a difference mainly because the test route will be the same. In case the learner driver tries a different road, the examiner will advise accordingly. However, we very much recommend the Tom Tom Start 52 mainly because it’s the device examiners tend to utilise whilst examining driving tests.

Route-led provides clients with a high degree of help and support to utilise our test routes. You’ll get accustomed to all the different sections of the roads to be travelled during the examination. We would suggest using a skilled driving instructor in addition. For extra free information on how you can pass your driving examination please go to Driving Test Practice

During the independent driving test, the examiner will provide the student all the necessary directions. In case the student becomes lost during the journey, they will be required to confirm the directions from the test examiner. Learners cannot use their own Sat nav devices for independent driving as they give turn by turn instructions. Independent driving will test the ability of the learner to undertake independent choices.
